Licensing of Abattoirs

Abattoirs

As an official agent of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland we provide the regulatory control service for certain types of food premises located in the county including domestic abattoirs and meat processing establishments supplying the local market.

There are 8 abattoirs operating within the county, which are monitored and licensed by the Council. From 1st.Jan 2006 all meat premises must be registered and the licensing function, previously operated by the Veterinary Section will be replaced by a registration system under the control of the Veterinary Section. The Council employ 6 Veterinary Officers for the purpose of carrying out ante and post mortem examinations of animals slaughtered at licensed abattoirs.
