The Veterinary Service liaise with the local office of the Dept. of Agriculture and Food on aspects of animal disease control and prevention particularly with regard to the “Notifiable Diseases” and the disposal of animal by-products.
Donegal County Council exercises a range of powers and responsibilities in relation to animal and food acts and various E.U and National Instruments/Protocols and Directives which have the objective of:
1. Protecting the domestic meat supply
2. Protecting the domestic milk supply
3. Control and protection of dogs
4. Diseases of Animals Act
5. Control of sheep scab
6. Provisions re: Class A Diseases
7. Protection of the environment, welfare of animals, zoonotic diseases
8. Other miscellaneous items
